NAMPHASA FARM
 

Namphasa farm is a model farm situated in Migowi – Phalombe with a cattle ranch and other animals including poultry. The cattle are for both dairy products as well as beef production.Namphasa has field offices for the area taking care of the maize mills and wholesale operations which have greatly contributed to small scale grocery businesses in the area.  The main agriculture produce from Namphasa comprises of certified hybrid maize seed, soya bean, sunflower, groundnuts and many more. There are also other animals like goats, sheep, rabbits and guinea fowl. In addition, there is poultry farm specialized in black legions locally known as “mikolongwe’ chickens. The chickens provide both eggs and meat for Blantyre and Phalombe customers.
 

The farming activities at Namphasa farm are highly mechanized thus using tractors to do the heavy land preparation while weeding is labour intensive. The farm employs over 1000 casual labours during peak seasons thus providing equal employment opportunities to the majority of rural people in the surrounding communities. This is also part of of the poverty reduction strategy among the rural populations who look at the farm as a source of staple food as well as income.
